As you go through life, so is the lessons and experiences that comes with it.

You might have heard some of these when you are younger, perhaps it is just ego that it didn’t strike a chord until you get older.

1. Buy experience & knowledge, not materials

Materials once gave me a fulfilment, when I started making money, buying stuff gives a lot of satisfaction. But as I started accumulating more and more, I also felt the burden that these things bring. When I have to move into a new apartment, or going for a new adventure in a new country, materials weigh me down and I had to let go eventually.

Knowledge is more superior and it stacks up, even compounds. What’s best it is weightless. The more you learn, it enriches your mind and soul.

2. Invest in you

You know what gives you better compounding and rate of return than anything out there? That’s you. Investing in yourself is the best decision I can ever make rather than chasing all the hype out there.

Best part is you get to feel it, if you subscribe to a gym you feel better and stronger. If you buy and read more books, you can write better, think better.

3. Your attention is precious

Your attention is probably the most important thing you own right now. So valuable that not only you, but others are fighting to entice and capture your attention.

Be aware that your attention is precious, then please protect it from all the junk and dopamine for that short term pleasure.

4. Now is the time, there is never a perfect time

Waiting for the perfect time is the lizard brain in all of us trying to procrastinate and delay.

There will never be the perfect time, chances are if you are in the perfect time you may not be the perfect you to best seize the opportunity.

Now is the time, so what if it is not the perfect time. You will find a way to get time if you want to. So what if you are not well equipped to take action right now, you need to figure it out as well during the perfect time.

Don’t wait, act now.

5. If you give attention to others, really mean it.

Be honest, when was the last time you really listen with all your heart to your other half, the people around you.

I realised that when I spent time with others, I think about myself, my problems, my own thoughts.

Even worse now with the phone constantly sending notifications and disruption.

I’m not different than a zombie if I am not sincere to make connections with others.
